Airbrush Motorcycle Helmet Designs: The Art Of Being Unique
Airbrushing is a way to create simply stunning and
beautiful artwork, although at one time it was nearly a
completely lost art form. Popular for some time in the
40s and 50s, airbrush popularity waned for some time
until, in the late 60s or early 70s, we started seeing
beautiful fantasy artwork airbrushed on the sides of
vans and, of course, airbrush motorcycle helmet designs.
Part of the fallout of the hippie counterculture of the
late 60s was what gave rise to airbrush popularity in
the 70s and 80s. Vans were seen everywhere with airbrush
paintings of fantasy art scenes. Great fire breathing
dragons, powerful wizards, and scantily clad male and
female barbarian warriors that seemed taken directly
from the pages of The Lord of the Rings or the artwork
of Boris Vallejo graced the sides of Dodge and Chevy
vans all over the country while motorcycle helmets bore
airbrushed slogans like "live to ride ride to live" and
classic biker designs such as snakes, dice (coming up
snake eyes, of course), whiskey bottles (Jack Daniels,
of course), and playing cards, among others.
In today's world, vans have given way to SUVs and no
one is painting on those, airbrush or otherwise.
Motorcycle helmet styles have changed drastically as
well, with plain round shell helmets being replaced by
oddly shaped designs covered with multiple patterns of
color. There still are solid color helmets available
and, of course, design airbrush motorcycle helmets as
well.
The times have changed, but airbrush motorcycle helmet designs really have not,
with most bikers still opting for Harley Davidson-inspired artwork, the
occasional sports team or rock band logo, and the
ever-original concept: airbrushing the bikers name,
which is only cool if your name is a single word noun
like Spike or Snake.
Obtaining an airbrushed motorcycle helmet is relatively
easy. You can purchase a solid colored helmet from any
retailer that deals in motorcycle helmets and then pay
an airbrush artist to create the design youd like.
Costs for this service will vary depending on the artist
doing the work, but airbrush work is a true art form and
usually doesnt come cheap.
Artists typically advertise in your local paper, yellow
pages, and arts journals. They can often be found at
places like swap meets as well. Another way would be to
purchase an already custom airbrushed motorcycle helmet.
This limits you from using your own creativity, but will
likely cost less in the long run. Airbrushed motorcycle
helmets can be found in many of the same locations
mentioned above and can be purchased online as well.
hile they may not be anywhere near as popular today as
they were a decade or so ago, airbrush motorcycle
helmets are still around and are still a way in which
bikers like to express themselves. Artistic and
decorative, airbrushed motorcycle helmets will probably be
around as long as there are still motorcycles rolling on
the streets and highways of the world and as long as
there are still bikers wearing helmets.
